Start your trip. Just a stone's throw from Athens, flying into the pistachio-scented hug of Aegina. Dock in the pastel-hued waterfront, where fisherman display their daily catch next to carts heaped with golden nuts. Climb to the Temple of Aphaia, which dates back more than the Parthenon, let its Doric columns frame your first sunset. Dinner is what? A carafe of resinous retsina and a seashore tray of gourounopoulo (suckling pig) right at your feet, the Aegean lapping.

Explore the turquoise waters of Love Bay then lost yourself in the backstreets of Poros Town, where ancient sailors mend nets and balconies drip bougainvillea. Join the hubbub at a beachfront taverna for saganaki set aflame at your table as evening sets; cheese so melted it might heal a shattered heart.

As you glide to Spetses, where horse carriages clatter over cobblestones and pine forests meet pebbled coves, let the dawn fade. Dock under the great 19th-century homes on the island, remains of a shipbuilding boom. Swim in the crystal shallows of Agia Marina; afterward, rent a bike to search secret beaches like Zogeria; your reward? A twilight gin cocktail at the pirate-chic pubs of Old Harbour, where yacht crews trade stories under fairy light strings

Spetses → Hydra

Sail south to the inspiration for the artists, Hydra. Just donkeys, stone walkways, and a bay so achingly beautiful it hurts—no automobiles, no stress. Beach-hop by water taxi to Kamini's pebbled coast, or climb the cliff path to the Profitis Ilasia monastery, where the vista runs indefinitely. Claim a rocky seat at Spilia Beach Bar at sunset, sip Aperol spritz while the glitterati anchor their boats. Later, follow the aroma of oregano to a back-alley taverna for olive oil octopus slow-cooked in simple perfection.

Stern-to on the main quay (free). Arrive before 15:00 in July–August or you will be raft-mooring 3–4 deep. No anchoring inside the bay — try Mandraki cove east of town as a backup.

Hydra → Aegina

Go back to Aegina seeing clearly. This time, avoid the temple and meander Perdika village, where cats doze under fishing boats and blue doors frame elderly men playing tavli (backgammon. After snorkel at Marathonas Beach, see the hilltop Monastery of Agios Nektarios, whose domes gleam honey-gold in afternoon sunshine. Meals? A baklava with a pistachio-crust and a sunset that renders the Saronic Gulf liquid amber.

Drop anchor at Skala Beach, where the sea shimmers like cellophane, and spend the day floating in the sort of silence that an unspoiled island provides. Trekking through cypress forests to peaceful Metochi village, then feast at a family-run kafeneio on astakomakaronada—the kind of meal that makes you swear off landlocked life permanently

Agistri → Athens

Go one last time into Agistri's waters on your last morning; the taste of salt and freedom will linger on your lips. If time permits, sail gently back to Athens and stop for a swim on the empty beach at Moni Island. Already fantasizing of your next trip, the water never really leaves you. So return to Piraeus with a sun-kissed glow and a heart full of Aegean light.
