For most bareboat charters in Greece you need a recognised skipper certificate (RYA Day Skipper, ICC, or equivalent) plus a VHF licence. If you don’t hold one, we book a professional skipper alongside the boat for the week.
The base charter fee covers the boat, standard equipment, insurance, and final cleaning fee in most cases. Extras such as fuel, port fees, transit log, tourist tax and skipper service are billed separately and explained in the booking summary.
For peak weeks (mid-July to late August) we recommend booking 6–9 months ahead to lock in the boat and the early-bird discount. Shoulder seasons (May, June, September) usually have availability up to a month before departure.
Antipaxos is small — about 5 km from end to end — but the cluster of beaches on its east coast is among the highest-rated in the Ionian. Voutoumi, Vrika, and Mesovrika are the three main bays. Voutoumi is the famous turquoise-water beach with sand on the south end and pebbles on the north; Vrika is broader and more family-friendly; Mesovrika is the small, tucked-in cove between them.
All three bays are exposed to the prevailing northerly Maestral. Mornings (before 11:00) are calmest. By afternoon, anchorage moves shift south to escape chop. There is no formal marina on Antipaxos — anchor outside Voutoumi or Mesovrika, or take a stern-line at the small jetty at Agrapidia on the southwest tip in calm conditions.
Vrika has Spiros taverna right at the beach — grilled octopus, fresh lavraki (sea bass), and a chilled carafe of Robola (the Cephalonian indigenous white). Voutoumi has Bella Vista on the headland with the same menu and a sunset terrace. Both close by 22:00.
The Ionian wines worth ordering: Robola from Cephalonia, Mavrodaphne (a sweet red traditionally fortified), and on Lefkas Vertzami (a deep red). Local cheeses include kefalotyri (hard, salty), and the marinated anchovies (gavros) come from Preveza-area boats.
A typical charter day: leave Lakka or Gaios on Paxos at 09:30, sail 5 nm south to Antipaxos arriving 11:00, swim and beach lunch in Voutoumi or Vrika, leave 15:30 to be back in Mongonisi or Lakka before the late afternoon Maestral peaks at 18–22 knots. Distance Paxos–Antipaxos is roughly 4–6 nautical miles depending on bay choice.
